CHICAGO – In a late addition to this week’s 2019 Golden Raspberry Awards, or “Razzies” as they’re also called, honoring the worst in acting, Jussie Smollett will be scoring his first win for his latest acting effort. The hapless actor will receive this year’s Worst Hate Crime Performance by an Individual or Ensemble Razzie.
Fresh off being taken into custody by Chicago Police, the announcement brightened Jussie’s mood and bolstered his belief that “any publicity is better than no publicity.” His cell mates agreed.
Explaining the organization’s rationale for honoring Smollett, a member of the Raspberry Board of Trustees laid it out this way: “Jussie’s performance was all wrong in his hate crime hoax. It just wasn’t believable. His casting of accomplices didn’t work. The camera angles betrayed what he was trying to convey. Don’t get me started on his acting ability in those TV interviews. It was a complete mess.”
“I know Jussie had hoped to start a race war, but I hope he looks at this award as a suitable consolation prize,” the official concluded.
Smollett’s cell mate friends tell us that in his acceptance speech later this week, the Empire actor plans to share the award with CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC for their undying support of his hate crime performance.
